A Sonnet of Resurrection

(2006)

In death and darkness deep I once did dwell,
But I enjoyed the silence of the same;
I gladly breathed the sickly fumes of hell,
As venom ran like fire throughout my veins.

Devouring worms ate at my sickened soul
That rotted ‘neath my cov’ring, calloused flesh;
All thoughts of love and light the Liar stole,
And I became a one of living death.

But One has writ His love for me in blood—
His own, that from his battered body poured;
And He has raised me up with Him in love
To live again, and now I call Him Lord.

In gratitude before Christ's throne I kneel,
From former death by His great mercy healed.
